Defying Gravity

On Sunday, February 22nd, my family and I headed into New York City to see Wicked the Musical, and it was truly one of those core memory kind of days.

Before the show, we stopped at Mokafe on 8th Ave. I ordered my go-to — a Pumpkin Spice Latte (my absolute favorite). There’s just something about a warm PSL on a cold winter day in NYC that makes everything feel extra cozy.

It was the perfect way to start the afternoon.

There is just something about walking through the city before a Broadway show — the energy, the buzz, the anticipation. Seeing Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre never gets old for me. It’s honestly one of my all-time favorite musicals.

And yes… I cried.

Both Defying Gravity and For Good get me every single time. There’s something so powerful about Elphaba rising above everything and then the bittersweet beauty of friendship at the end. Even though I know what’s coming, it still hits just as hard.

After the show, we headed to Serendipity 3 for dinner — and I cannot recommend it enough.

First of all, the Andy Warhol theme? Obsessed. As someone who absolutely loves Andy Warhol, I appreciated every detail of the décor.

For appetizers, we got:

  • Boom Boom Shrimp (10/10)

  • Nachos (also 10/10)

For my entrée, I kept it classic with the regular mac and cheese — creamy, comforting, and perfect after an emotional Broadway show.

And then… dessert.

We ordered the Outrageous Banana Split, and it absolutely lived up to its name. Massive. Over-the-top. Completely worth it.

One of the best parts? We managed to get out of the city right before the blizzard really picked up. Perfect timing. The snow made the day feel even more magical without actually ruining our plans.

Final Thoughts

Broadway. Family time. Comfort food. Coffee. Art vibes. Snowy city streets.

It was one of those simple but perfect days that remind me why I love doing little adventures like this.

If you’re ever thinking about:

  • Seeing Wicked (do it.)

  • Trying Serendipity (also do it.)

  • Or making a winter Sunday into something special…

Take this as your sign.

It was such a fun day, and I’ll definitely be holding onto this memory for a long time.
